Four years ago today, Ed and I got married at St. Clements Castle in Portland, CT. The outdoor ceremony ended with just a sprinkle of rain for good luck, we laughed and ate and danced away the afternoon, then moved the party to my parents’ house for a pool party and picnic.
These four years have gone by so quickly. Since the wedding, I got my M.S. and tenure at school, Ed helped his brother start an aquaculture business, other loved ones have gotten married, and we built our home. Throughout the ups and downs of the past four years, Ed and I have grown closer and love each other even more. We both feel the happiest now that we have ever been.
In honor of our anniversary, I’m making a cake reminiscent of our wedding cake, which was inspired by strawberry shortcake, my favorite dessert, and had layers of white cake filled with strawberry cream and vanilla buttercream frosting. Ed’s gift to me was the backsplash, and my gift to him is this cake. Both presents come from our hearts and are made with love. Here’s to many more years of love and marriage!
